Die kleine Weltlaterne
Schön war die Zeit, als die Welt noch in Ordnung war -
West-Berlin in pictures #50:
Die kleine Weltlaterne - celebrating its 50th anniversary September 14th 2011!
Picture: Hertha and Ingo Fiedler in front of the “Kleine Weltlaterne” located in Kreuzberg in the 1960s.

it was accurately on february 28th, 1961 when Hertha Fiedler, chef of a snugly “kneipe” in Kreuzberg’s Kohlfurter Strasse, renamed her establishment “Kleine Weltlaterne” [Little World Lamp] and started to fill it with pictures, artists and citizens interested in art. Later, the “kleine Weltlaterne” moved to Berlin-Wilmersdorf. Hertha Fiedler passed away in 2010, but Dietrich Alexander von Plettenberg has produced a documentary on the origins and the development of the “kleine Weltlaterne” celebrating its 50th anniversary: 1961 - 2011
"Der Trampelpfad der Künste" [Trail of Arts].
Movie premiere will take place on Wednesday next week, September 14th, 2011 at 9pm!
Die Kleine Weltlaterne, Nestorstr. 22, 10709 Berlin-Wilmersdorf
open daily from 8pm, except Sundays
Note: Though the website is in German only you can find some nice souvenirs left by once - and even still - well-known guests here (for example one of a certain "Juliett Grecco" [Sic!]). These memorabilia are really worth to take a look…
